Lakeland Girls Academy is a nonprofit boarding school for girls who are self-destructing or struggling with life-controlling issues. We offer a year-round, highly active environment with adventure, counseling, academic repair, life coaching, and other therapeutic programs. We help girls soar emotionally, spiritually and academically while providing a fun, safe and loving environment.
Lakeland Girls Academy is a part of Teen Challenge International, we help teenage girls, ages 13-17, find their identity in Christ and to fulfill their God-given destiny and purpose. LGA stands apart from other Christian boarding schools because we are designed to work with difficult girls. Our decisions and interactions with each girl are Christ-centered. We believe that Jesus is enough to meet the deepest needs of even the most troubled girl. Behavior modification is not our goal. We long to see and work to inspire authentic change that will last a lifetime, possible only through the work of the Holy Spirit.
LGA student residences, kitchen/dining, and school are located in a 10,000 square foot home-like facility on acreage nestled in a middle-class community. There are ample areas for physical activities on the property, an inter-campus athletic department, and a screened-in pool. Lakeland employs fifteen female team members and counselors, each with the appropriate education and experience suited for their roles.
Teen Challenge provides a safe haven for adolescents who have sought to fill the void in their hearts, only to reap destructive consequences in its place. Our program provides an opportunity for each student to refocus and assess her life decisions and allows her the opportunity to choose the abundant life Christ has to offer. In the process, the student is taught indispensable lessons of strong work ethics, teamwork, patience, diligence, determination, communication, submission, and motivation, to name a few
We are staffed with people whose hearts beat for God and for the young ladies He brings to us. We help girls with behavioral or rebellion issues, low self-esteem, or depression. We provide a unique atmosphere with personal attention to help each girl get back on track and develop positive life strategies. Our students learn the necessary skills to prepare them for the future while they become confident and secure.
The progress of our students is based on a collaborative and collective effort of the child’s counselor, staff, and parents. Counseling is provided through a faith-based holistic approach and is unique to each student’s needs. To move to higher levels in our program, students must prove themselves to be worthy of that level.
A Christian Boarding School that Solves Behavioral Issues
Lakeland Girls Academy offers help for adolescents and teens ages 13-17 who are struggling with various behavioral issues or rebellion. Some of those issues may include:
• Poor Decision Making
• Rebellion or Defiant Behavior
• Lying or Manipulation
• Drug and Alcohol Use or Abuse
• Self-harm or Cutting
• Eating Disorders
• Running Away
• Difficulty Progressing in a Traditional School Setting
Teen Challenge programs all encourage their students to believe, in faith, that understanding and applying biblical principles will not only help them conquer the various obstacles to healing and peace in their lives but will also bring them to a place of freedom and victory. We believe that every girl can have a unique “Journey of a Lifetime” when she discovers and accepts her God-ordained purpose and calling in life. She then becomes empowered with a God-given authority, a God-given identity, and an unfathomable measure of agapé love that can be so powerful that it must only come from God himself.
We give each student the highest education possible is our top priority. We recognize the value of a good education and how it plays into future success. As a year-round school, LGA has a unique advantage to help maximize potential and/or any previous time where they may have slipped behind.
At LGA, all students take classes through Alpha Omega Academy, a fully accredited, web-based Christian curriculum. Because we operate year-round, students have the unique opportunity to get back on track, or in many cases even get ahead in their classes. Students can fully capitalize and take advantage of the time they have for school, and we see many students complete middle or high school while at LGA.
AOA is accredited through COGIA, the largest accrediting body in the world, representing 34,000 schools across the United States and 70 other nations. AOA’s rigorous online curriculum is enhanced by engaging videos, animations, and learning games that result in maximum student involvement and success. Each online unit is comprised of interactive lessons, practical projects, and cumulative tests. (Source: aoacademy.com). AOA’s accreditation makes it easy for their credits to transfer back to the school they enter after LGA.
At LGA, our classroom is overseen by onsite teachers and tutors who are available for questions, as well as online teachers and tutors for further help. Each student is given a laptop computer to use and their own space in a structured classroom atmosphere where they can fully focus on their schooling. Students do not have the distraction of cell phones, social media, or the distraction of unhealthy friends that could pull their attention away from schooling. We make it easy to succeed due to the atmosphere of our classroom.
For individual tutoring, LGA offers Math and English tutors who specialize in high school and college curriculum. Our students also utilize “White Board Meetings” set up through AOA to directly contact their online teachers for even more help. In White Board Meetings, students have the availability to talk with their online teachers in a live chat room, listen to the teacher, and follow along with the virtual whiteboard teachers use to explain lessons and problems.
Eleventh and twelfth grade students will be enrolled in Standardized Assessment Tests (SAT) and given SAT prep material to study. Students will review with our on site tutors before taking the SAT, which is necessary for college entrance.
After high school graduation, our students are enrolled in Liberty University’s online program. Students will begin their general education courses and begin earning college credits, which helps them succeed even more after graduating.
