Lakewood Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2010 Census the township had a total population of 92,843, making Lakewood the largest community in Ocean County. The 2010 population represented an increase of 32,491 (53.8%) from the 60,352 residents enumerated during the 2000 Census, with the township ranking as the seventh-largest municipality in the state in 2010 after having been ranked 22nd in 2000. The sharp increase in population from 2000 to 2010 was led by increases in the township’s Orthodox Jewish and Latino communities. Lakewood was incorporated as a township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 23, 1892, from portions of Brick Township.
