Teens Come to Teen Challenge Schools from West Virginia and from All Across America
Teen girls and boys come to Teen Challenge from across the country, including from West Virginia. Most Teen Challenge students are from homes several hundred miles away from the campus. We find it constructive for teens to experience a new environment well away from their old peer groups who may be near West Virginia.
Teen Challenge provides a dynamic team of dedicated individuals who provide them with an atmosphere of love when they are at their worst. Teens who are in our care participate in individual and group counseling and spiritual guidance. Teens progress through five phases of growth until they gain a new outlook and are ready to return to normal life at home. Beyond scheduled sessions, therapy happens as teens relate with our team of Christian mentors and staff during class time, recreation, meals, and even chores. Our staff reside with the teens in the dorms and humbly share their lives out of a desire to deeply influence the teens.
Teen Challenge Residents Learn to Help the Community As Well
An added key gauge of growth is an attitude of service and giving to others. Teen Challenge heavily promotes community participation and giving through serving. Teen Challenge teens serve one another, serve the community and learn to serve the world. Service happens on campus; during local trips to soup kitchens, churches, and parks; and in missions experiences such as teaching orphaned children. Nurturing maturing teens means instructing them how to lift up others, and we work hard to lead by example. The volunteer work is completely charitable and unpaid.
